DC53 mould steel is a new type of cold work mold steel that is improved on SKD11. Its technical specifications are set out in Japanese Industrial Standard (JIS) G4404. It overcomes the shortcomings of SKD11 in high temperature tempering hardness and toughness, and will completely replace SKD11 in the field of general and precision molds. Its toughness is twice that of SKD11. The toughness of DC53 is more outstanding among cold work die steels. Tools made of DC53 rarely have cracks and cracks, which greatly improves the service life.

Excellent characteristics

(1) The heat treatment hardness of DC53 is higher than that of SKD11:

DC53 high temperature (520-530℃) can reach a high hardness of 62-63HRC after tempering. Therefore, the strength and wear resistance of DC53 can be better than that of SKD11;

(2) Toughness is twice as high as SKD11:

Among tool steels for cold working, DC53 has the highest toughness, so it can prevent cracking and chipping of tools and molds. There are very few tools made of DC53.

Cracks and cracks appear, increasing service life;

(3) DC53 can improve the huge carbide of SKD11:

The size of DC53's giant carbide has been improved to less than 1/3 of SKD11, so it can prevent cutting edge chipping (chipping), which causes mold damage.

Practical features

(1) The machinability and grindability are both better than SKD11, so the service life of the processing tool is longer and the number of processing man-hours is saved.

(2) The quenching hardening energy is higher than that of SKD11, so it can improve the defect of insufficient hardness during vacuum heat treatment.

(3) High-temperature tempering can reduce residual stress and eliminate residual Waston iron, which can prevent cracks and deformation caused by wire cutting processing.

(4) The surface hardness after surface hardening treatment is higher than that of SKD11, so the mold performance can be improved.

(5) Since the preheating and postheating temperatures are lower than SKD11, the repair welding operation is easier.
